Hi all,
Nicole and I will be running the Magick Bus to KG from Toronto again this year. Drop me a message if you want in. It was a great time last year and I'm sure it will be a bunch of fun this year too. Unless the bus company charges us more this year than it did last year the fee will be the same $100 round trip and we're thinking of leaving Toronto on the Monday before Fest at about 10 am, which would mean a 9 am meet up to load the bus and get our sh%t together.

ETA: We already have 17 (of 28 possible) seats filled if we're taking the 4 maybes into account.

Hi all,

Nicole and are thinking about renting buses for both Wic-Can Fest and Kaleidoscope Gathering this year and this is the initial post to check interest. The price for the Wic-Can Fest bus is TBD, but unless things have changed with the bus co. the price for KG will be the same $100. The ride to KG was, despite a bit of a navigational setback, pretty darned fun and I'm sure it will be again. As last year, we need about 20 people per bus to make the rental feasible, so please sound off here or even better, over at "Rides to Ontario Pagan Festivals" Facebook group if you're interested.

Aug. 18th, 2008 @ 11:32 pm Bardic Entry - Gnome Man's Land
Tags: ,
Hey folks,

I apologize for the lag in getting this posted. I was asked by a few people if I would post the song I wrote for this year's bardic competition.

Please enjoy. Feel free to use it, toss it into different music, or what have you.

Just remember that the life of a gnome is nasty, brutish, and above (or below) all - short

Gnome Man's Land -
- Northbard - Kaleidoscope 2008

What the heck was that I heard
I pray it's not another bird
Or worse a hungry fox outside my little mushroom home

Life ain't very cute or sweet
When you're small enough to eat
I gotta say it sucks to be a gnome

Now I ain't even three damned apples high
I'm not a fairy, I can't fly
And I'm no brownie I don't wanna fix your friggin' shoe

I'm just here to tell you all
I wish you'd stick to being tall
Cuz what you think of gnomes just isn't true

Somtimes I crawl into a human house
Through tunnels left there by a mouse
And listen to them reading stories by some kook

About the gnomes as they see us
Living lives without fuss
So cutesy sweet and joyful that it makes me wanna puke!

Last week my family all got eaten by a lousy dog
And I'd be mourning but a sudden downpour turned our town to bog

My fellow gnomes are hungering
I've got a job to do
This time it's breaking in and taking food from you

We're warriors in hats of brown
We're never there when you're around
We just might be the reason why you cannot find your cat.

We're older than your three-fold law
We're magic red in tooth and claw
Cuz nature isn't always nice, you'd best remember that!

Chorus x2

I've got some mead I bought from Renata of Renwick, and also some of the Low Key Mead Jordan sells at Helmut's booth.

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on how long these need to be aged, and at what age we reach the point of diminishing returns?

I've got one that's as old as 2003, and some that are from just last year.

OK, here we go.

First of all, if you are contacting me via email, please put something like K-fest, Kaleidoscope Gathering, KG or something so I can see the emails easier! You can reach me on my cell phone at all times at 613-276-2342, but you better have a TANJ good reason to contact me after 11 pm, or before 10 am! That is DO NOT CALL BETWEEN 11 PM and 10 AM EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES! And remember that I work weekdays from around 9am to around 6pm, so you may go straight to my answering service if you call then.

The week preceding K-Fest:
I will be doing only one trip per evening on the weeknights before the main weekend. I hope to have the Friday afternoon booked off so that I can do an early afternoon (Before rush hour), late afternoon (just after rush hour) and one evening trip if there is enough demand.

Two trips on Sunday, probably mid-afternoon, and one evening. Same for Monday, if there is enough demand.

Prices: $20 one way, $35 round trip.
Dealers: Please contact me, and let me know how much stuff you are bringing up.

Pick up Points:
- In Ottawa, I am still (foolish me) willing to try picking up people at wherever they may be.
- At KG, unless you make special arrangements, I will be picking people beside the Pavilion by the entrance. If you have too much stuff to move, please contact me to make special arrangements.

I've already had about a dozen inquiries about drives, so please let me know if you need a drive.

To those who have emailed me, please send me another email saying when you are planning on going and leaving, both the days, and times you are looking for. I have some flexibility with my schedule, so if enough people are ok with it, I can move things later or earlier in the day.

Jun. 27th, 2008 @ 09:20 am Chartering a bus to KG
Tags: ,
Hi all,
As some of you may have seen elsewhere Nicole and I are planning on chartering a bus so that the transportationally challenged Torontonians among us can get down to KG this year. So, we now have a confirmed price quote on the bus. The tickets have worked out to be a little more expensive than we'd have liked at $100 per person, but it's still $88 less than taking the Greyhound to Cornwall and SCADS less than renting a car and covering fuel costs. We'll be meeting up in the parking lot of the Loblaws at Dupont and Christie because both food and booze are close to hand there so that can be handled before we get going. We have a list of people that have spoken up about seats. Some of them are definitely confirmed and some of them are definitely not confirmed. Both space(we have room for 24 people and their gear) and time (we need to confirm with the bus company and subsequently provide them with a deposit ASAP before all of their available buses are reserved) are limited so if you want in please sound off pronto. Travel dates are EITHER from Sunday 27th of July (the date that the campsite is open to us) to Monday August 4th OR Tuesday the 29th of July (the day before the start of the festival) to Monday August 4th. Please indicate your dates of preference when responding.

Here's the list, I will update it (italicized names are maybes) as we go:

1.      Dan (pref. Sunday departure)

2.      Nicole (pref. Sunday departure)

3.      Brad P

4.      Joel

5.      Ben

6.      A. C. (pref. Sunday departure)

7.      Cara S (pref. Sunday departure)

8.      Maddie B (pref. Sunday departure)

9.      Erica  S (pref. Sunday departure)

10.  Sarah L (pref. Sunday departure)

11.  Mikey B (pref. Sunday departure)

12.  Josh S

13. Ray M (pref Tuesday departure)

14. Kitty (REQUIRES  Tuesday departure)

15. Jason (REQUIRES Tuesday departure)

19.  Deni

20.  Nick

21.  Deni’s kids

22.  Kari-Beth F

Remember: The only reservation is a paid reservation.

EDIT: Okay, here are the final details... The bus will meet us at 10am on Tuesday July 29th in the parking lot of the Dupont and Christie Loblaws. If you want to be on it, here's what I need from you:

A $50 cash deposit before Friday July 4th
The $50 cash balance before Friday July 18th

ladies and gentlemen;

Sick of having to whittle down your camping gear to fit into the trunk or roof rack?
Tired of that look on your rides' face as you show up with waaaaaaaaay too much luggage? (this is so something I'm guilty of)
worried about how the Hel you're getting to KG this year?
Scared of the high prices of gas?
Stressed at the idea of a long drive?

Me too.

SO, we are looking at chartering a school bus to drive us to KG on Tuesday and to pick us up on the Monday afternoon and take us home. Lots of room, storage under the bus and in the bus, MP3 player on the bus and, best of all, the festival begins 5 hours earlier.

The more people who are doing this, the cheaper it gets for everyone.

This is your chance.

stress free ride to KG, for cheaper than filling a gas tank. So far it looks like it'll be $75 round trip, but the more people the cheaper, I'm looking at getting it down to $50 round trip.

as I get more quotes from bus companies, I will keep everyone updated.

If you are interested and SERIOUS and would like to be kept in the loop, post here or email me at

wow, I just can't wait to be there.

Okay, so, as I mentioned in my last post, KG is only 45 days from now & we're starting to prepare. If we lived in Quebec, we'd just wander over to pick up a couple of bottles of "hydromel" at our local SAQ, but we don't & the LCBO sorta sucks in this particular area of alcohol. So...

Do any of you know where one can purchase, either directly from the manufacturer, or elseways a few bottles (I don't think I want to buy a whole case of anything, unless I already know/like the brand) for fest consumption?

Please & thank you!

Oct. 4th, 2007 @ 01:54 pm Upcoming show - "Making Necrophiliac"
Hello all!

I performed at the bardic at "Infest", and received a lot of interest from people regarding the show the tune "Schpank Me" is from.  So I've posted the information below.  Members of the pagan community involved (although it's not  pagan show, just a show for fun) include Laszlo, myself, and Dorothea.  Enjoy, and feel free to pass it on!

A New Musical

by Maureen Chaume    Music by Guy Del Villano

"Making Necrophiliac"  is a new musical comedy with an old-style charm, and a bit of B horror for fun. A mismatched group of performers put on an avant-garde show tune, called Necrophiliac. With a plague of mishaps, a big storm brewing, and love gone awry ... how will the show ever go on?

And what about the corpse??

Come and enjoy a delightful night of slapstick, ribaldry, and music!

Actually, if you're a true festaholic, the countdown really began as you were packing up at the end of last year's fest, but that's an entirely different subject.
I was randomly wandering through info pages, seeing if anything new had been added, when I noticed that the Tickerfactory.com countdown thingy was for last year's fest & thought that it was just silly to know how long it'd been since KG'06 started, so I figured I'd go & create a new one!

And here's the html (missing the <>s on each command), just incase someone wants to fix the one on the info page. :)

Hi folks!

I don't know when the schedule will be posted, but I have recently posted up to the e-group, now posting here...

Rick and I haven't yet decided if we will present our workshop on Energy Basics (Grounding Centering and Shielding - Beginner, Intermediate/Advanced) at KG 2006.

We need to determine the  interest from you, fest attendees  and we have until July 6th (thursday) to submit the workshop to the organizers, and I am looking for feedback from you folks to determine whether YOU Fest goers wish to see the workshop on the schedule.

I have to admit, we almost ALWAYS get an excellent turnout for all levels of this workshop.  We have been running it for 4 years now (started in 2003 because of a couple of specific incidents).

Do you folks think we should offer our workshop at this year's Kaleidoscope???

Hey y'all! Pleased to be here!

Now straight to the begging.

I am a single, non-smoking solitary eclectic (if that matters) looking for a ride from Toronto to Wiccanfest this year. I can pack pretty tightly, too.

So far I've lined up two "possible, if nothing else comes up, cuz then I'm not going" rides, neither of which fill me with any kind of confidence.

I may be helping another, even more solitary (but less eclectic, again, if it matters) find a ride as well, but as of yet, she hasn't decided if she's coming. She and I would be camping together, which means that some gear could be shared between us, making us each effectively a bit lighter still. :D

Alternately, I could take a go bus to Barrie, Newmarket or Oakville, if anyone could get me there.

I'd ideally like to arrive as early as possible, but beggars can't be choosers.

sorry for the crossposting, but I'm desperate!

we bottled 2 cases of mead yesterday figuring that it will be quite good by KG. No chemicals, no additives, pure unpastuerized honey straight from a local farm. The honey we started with was like silk down the back of the throat so we are looking forward to the end result. We made 2 x 23L carboys; one naked and one metheglin (spiced). You know fest season approaches when you are preparing your alcoholic beverages!!!

Aug. 5th, 2005 @ 02:02 pm My KG experience
I had an amazing, intense time as always. I find KG brings out a lot of my "stuff", leaving a much lighter me afterwards. Especially this time round. I arrived Saturday early afternoon, and missed the Stag King competition (dammit!). I had looked forward to lots of sweating bronzed male energy. *pouts*.

It was nice to get there and finally get set up, considering I was up until 2 am with laundry issues. They close the laundry room at my place at 9pm, for "security purposes" (wha'fuck??). Laundry mat near me closed down, friends near me weren't home, so the bathtub it was! Stiff, soapy underwear...mmmm, yummy!

I completely neglected to remember that I don't wear underwear at fest.

So..finished setting up, had a swim. I chose the lake this time, and not the pool, as I got a cold from the pool last time. The lake was awesome. The sun was going down over the trees, and it was my favourite time of day, when everything is all golden.
There were a few people in the water, a couple and a family. The couple were laughing and giggling so hard I was surprised water wasn't coming out of their noses. It was wonderful music to listen and swim to.

That night was bardic, and I couldn't believe the number of people that performed! I barely made it; I was last on the list, and they let me squeeze in. I always enjoy performing last. Energy is at it's peak. Won first place for "The Bard Would Not Shut Up"; it's a brilliant poem, written by a brilliant friend. I loved the audience participation. Then came the drumming; I drummed until my hands were numb; did some dancing, and drummed some more. I completely lost myself in the rhythms at time, at others watching all the dancers, all gold and orange from the fires. All body types, all ages, all feeling the same rhythm, lost in the dance. It was beautiful.

Sunday I wandered for some of the day; visiting friends, and being fed and watered (with alcohol) at each site I stopped at. Then I attended the Earth Dance workshop; a wonderful workshop! I highly recommend it to everyone! Wonderful energy was raised.

Then came the women's rit; an intense experience for all. Especially for me. I finally spoke publicly for the first time about something I'd been holding deep inside with shame and guilt. The reaction was amazing. I was approached by other women who had the same experience, which helped incredibly. I had been feeling alone and lost in my pain, and to know that others had experienced, and understood...I feel I may even be able to forgive myself someday. Thank you to all who came forward to speak with me and giving me your warmth and love. Blessed be.

The rest of Sunday was therefore me in a highly emotional state, culminating with a good cry at the end of it all. All day women came forward to offer their support. I love you all. Monday I awoke at peace, for the first time in a long time. Packing up was stressful as always, mostly because it was hot and sticky and I loathe doing it. I then had a nice relaxing swim, and a lazy day.

A lovely, golden experience. Thank you to all for making it so.

Aug. 5th, 2005 @ 11:19 am My KG weekend (x-posted to my LJ)
Current Mood: tiredtired
I forgot to post about my KG trip. This will likely be a bit out of order, cuz other than the bardic, I don't know what happened when.

We left Thursday morning at about 7:45am... we were supposed to get up at 5am and be at Nathan's for 7am. Our alarm didn't go off, so we woke up at 6:55am with a jolt, got out of here by 7:45am. We wound up taking Nathan's parents' van and leaving my baby (car) with his dad for the weekend. That was a good choice, cuz at least we weren't smooshed. And it meant I didn't have to do any of the driving lol.

So... we get there and I find out that because so many people had been there soooo early, that we didnt' get the "close to the fire" group-sized site that we'd been hoping for, and instead were camped even farther away from the fire than we were last year. *sigh* If phoenix_flames hadn't already been camped there and saved space for us, I would've taken our shit and camped by ourselves, closer to the main fire pit. Thank goodness I brought goleafsgo as our babysitter, or I'd never have left the campsite... was just too damn far to walk.

Thursday night we missed Opening Rit as usual... I missed the Bellydancing workshop... and we pretty much schmoozed. I drank about 2 beers... cuz I wanted to see how the kids were gonna sleep. They slept right thru. We went to the fire... there were already about 300 people there, I'd been told... which was crazy for Thurs. I danced the fire a little... it rocked... I needed that energy flow... it is so amazing.

Friday... again... didn't go to any workshops. Oy. I don't remember exactly what I did on Friday actually. LOL. I think it was a lot of wander around, talk to people... went swimming at some point. Was really funny to break up the debate amongst the fest-virgins (my babysitters) who were standing with Bill by the pond, waiting for me, and debating who was gonna get over themselves and get nekkid first. LOL... I came walking up... asked what everyone was standing around waiting for me, for... got told they were deciding who would get nekkid first... handed the baby to goleafsgo, stripped, took the baby... "Ok, well I'm going swimming, you guys have fun..." haha... that rocked. Once again... had like 3 beers... waiting to see if the kids would sleep thru. They did... I danced the fire some more... hung out by our own campfire a bit... went to bed. Woke up at 4am and went to fetch Bill from the main firepit. LOL (This is a usual fest occurrance. lol)

Saturday... the day of our ADF "Main Rit"... the day of the Bardic. We had an early meeting about the rit, and who did what and stood where. That went well. I had still not finished writing my song. So far, since Thurs, every time I got my book out and thought I'd be able to write... either a ton of people came back to the site, or my kids started going nuts. Again... no workshops. Was going to go to the Magic, Music & Massage one... we went our first year and it was amazing and I hadn't been able to go since, because of kids. Didn't go again... cuz it was scheduled at the same time as Stag King. I wanted Bill to go to that. So he went... and stood around and didn't compete *kicks him*... so I should've just took him to the stupid massage workshop instead. I'm kindof pissed about that. Just a little bitter, really. That massage workshop was about 80% of the reason we brought a sitter. Cuz the last 2 years, nobody was willing to watch my kids during that workshop (and had no trouble at all watching them when I DIDN'T want to be somewhere). So once again... I missed it... I'm beginning to think I won't get to go to it ever again. Last year I went to the mud massage one all by myself because Bill had to watch the baby. ANYWAY... end rant.
So... the ritual happened... went amazingly... we didn't get as many people as I'd expected... I guess people expected a Wiccan rite, and maybe that's why a lot of people didn't bother with Main Rit? But around 150 people anyway... so it was awesome. The games went really well... the energy during said games was so amazing I had goosebumps. Best ADF rite I've ever been to/participated in.
So 2 hours after that, we're at the firepit waiting for the bardic to start, and I'm frantically writing out the last 2 verses. It's all good... I get it done with 2 performances to spare, ahead of me. Unfortunately I hadn't talked to Rikki or anyone else to drum for me. I had the brilliant idea to drum for myself. But I wore a long dress... and the drum was muted... and it sounded retarded... and I knew it did... and I stopped. And I asked for someone to drum for me... and I got someone (I forget his name, I'm sorry! But your drumming was awesome, thankyou so much.)... I gave him the beat... but I didn't have time to explain that it was only at the ends of verses for 8 bars... I asked to start over... Pam said no... so I was twice as fubar'd cuz I was thrown off and had to start in the middle... I was getting more and more nerve-wracked because I could feel all those eyes on me... I'm a very nervous person... not a very good bard, really, since I don't really enjoy being in the spotlight like that. So I start trying to sing WITH the drumming... and keep losing my place in the beat because there wasn't supposed to be drumming 'cept in between verses. I should've just sat down. Instead I attempted to take the proud route and kept singing til the bitter end. Very. Bitter. Awful, in fact. I sucked. The big one. Worse than I've ever sucked before. *sigh* Which sucked cuz I really liked my song this year. I should've just sat down. Instead I left the "center stage" with tears in my eyes... knowing that I'd just made an utter fool of myself... and proceeded to drink myself into oblivion... that was some good mead, actually. I slept thru the rest of the bards (I was #6 ... I think there were 18?)... and woke up in time to hear who won... very plastered, but really not giving a shit about how badly I sucked... so that was good. LOL.
Got ushered back to my campsite, dropped down beside our campfire with phoenix_flames and drank some more. Went to the fire, danced topless for the first time (pretty proud of that, actually, cuz I really don't like my breasts, let alone the rest of my body)... then got called back to the site because... of all nights... my kids woke up... Bri had a nightmare and woke up Danika. So I put them both back to bed... laid down with Nika and snuggled her to sleep to the sounds of drumming... and the sounds of the next tent having a whole lot of fun... *smirk* (With tears in my eyes, cuz now I had time to think about the bardic more, AND my kids were awake, and some other personal junk).

Anyway... went to one workshop all weekend, which was really dumb of me since I did bring said babysitter for that purpose. *smacks forehead* But it was a cool one, by Lady Ivy, on Sunday. I now know how to read tealeaves. Anyone want their fortune told? lol. Lady Ivy read mine at the workshop and said I was very fertile and should be careful about that, if it's not my intention to get pregnant again. That same night... my "Aunt Flo" came to visit for the first time since I got pregnant with Danika. *grr* Fertile, eh? Haha... very amusing. Ugh. I danced the fire to "Moira" with Brigit for a bit... she does the best jig I've ever seen a 2 yearold do... lol... and then took her and Nika to bed... (If you saw someone walk by with a baby strapped to her front, and a 2 yearold tied to her back with a sarong, looking much like a pack-mule... that was me) and sat by our own campfire til Bill came up... ate some junk food around the fire... and then went to bed early.

We left Monday afternoon... missed the Closing Rit, as usual. I was pretty much ready to leave on Sunday, with exception of my tealeaf workshop.

All in all, as usual, an amazing KG weekend... I feel refreshed. 'Cept for the cold I got from accidentally snorting pool water up my nose on Sunday... figures, the first time I use the pool at KG... first time I've even SEEN the pool at KG... and it makes me get sick :( I think I want to leave the kids behind next year so I can truly relax and have fun and not have to spend most of the weekend at my campsite. I'm very proud to say that I went all weekend with no sunburn for the first time. I have some regrets of things I didn't do, things I didn't say... and well... the thing I screwed up. But... all in all, the good outweighs the bad (I just have a bad habit of ranting about the bad... lol)... and I'm glad we didn't miss it... even though we're more-than-broke and probably shouldn'tve gone at all. It's all good. At least I can't list "not going to Kaleidoscope" among my regrets.

Aug. 3rd, 2005 @ 09:37 pm How big was your Enclave?
Current Mood: statistical
luckytroll and myself created a little subcommunity for the people in our Enclave (Rick and Marie's/ja's/the Poly Enclave etc). I was doing a roll call post (counting heads as it were) and it turns out that all told, we had 37 people (kids included) that stayed for at least one night.

Not bad since at one point I counted 20 heads in the communal kitchen! :)

Jul. 19th, 2005 @ 08:19 pm Need a ride back to Montreal on Monday, August 1st
Current Mood: scrambling
Hi folks,

I thought I had my rides arranged but it turns out I only have a ride up on Wednesday (yeah I'm showing up early and paying the owners directly for an extra day - guess I'll be staking out our enclave's turf).

However, I still find myself needing a ride back on the afternoon or evening of Monday, August, 1st to Montreal. Especially if I am unable to convince kallisti to be my ride. I'm willing to pay for gas money +$20-30 (or gas money + a mint, unread copy of Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince*)

I have a fair bit of gear: tent, sleeping bag, sleeping roll, knapsack, folding chair + 1-2 cooler (depending on whether I bring booze or not)

*Amazon.ca failed me and I ended up scurrying downtown to buy a second copy so that I could read the book on Saturday. Incidentally, my first copy finally showed up today - this is the copy that I'm willing to give in addition to paying for gas money.

Jun. 29th, 2005 @ 12:51 pm KG newbie
Current Mood: curiouscurious
I've never been to KG. I've heard quite a bit about KG, with the majority of it being very good, a little not so good and some just downright questionable (but in a good way).

My curiosity of this thing known as KG has been aroused. An aroused curiosity is usually a good thing for most people, but for those of you who know me, I'm sure you'd all agree that I'm not like most people.

So, in an attempt to gain control of my rampant curiosity, I turn to you fine folks with KG festing experience. Please let me know your top 5 (or 10 if you like) reasons why someone (like me) should go to KG. Mayhap I'll be able to feed the info to my curiosity and he'll leave me alone to plan the trip.

Jun. 23rd, 2005 @ 09:50 am HOW I SPENT THE SOLSTICE
just got back from my folks place out in the country.
they have the addition done now, so i spent two glorious nights with the bay doors open,
(screen door in place to keep the buggies out) and the cool night breeze coming in.
the coyotes were out the first night yipping and carrying on.
the have a very different language then wolf, which i can speak pretty well.
they were quite literally in the backyard, just the other side of the fence.

not a bad way to spend the 21st.

Yes, I am a copycat. Well... sortof. I had the idea a while ago but got beaten to the punch *grins*... just for a different fest. (See wiccanfesters).
Anyway... Join it... talk about Fest... check out the countdown ticker on the info if you're as eager as I am! :)

Non KG-attendees welcome, I don't mind banter about other fests and inquiries from fest-virgins... :)
Need a couple of helper-monkeys to help me moderate it though, so please comment or email me if you'd like to help.

Please read the info for this community's rules.
